Porsche Cayman

Porsche Cayman Coupe, the mid-engined, rear wheel drive 2-seat sportser is  manufactured by the Porsche AG of Germany. The two-door coupe is spawned on the second generation Boxster convertible. The car first saw the light of the day in the year 2006 and as most of the Boxter’s the  Caymans are also assembled in Finland for Porsche by Valmet Automotive, the rest are manufactured at Stuggart, Germany. However as Volkswagen took over this German company, that agreement between Porsche and Valmet fell through and now the production of Cayman will be done at Karmann plant in Osnabruck, Germany  owned by Volkswagen.

Cayman, the name which is derived from a reptile in the same family as the alligator Caiman, is not named after Cayman Island. The distinctive, unyielding, resolute, strong-willed Coupe comes in two different characters. Porsche Cayman is spawned on the 550 Spyder model  and was developed particularly for the  “Le Mans Coupe” a legendary sports coupe race that was began in the year 1953.

Porsche Cayman comes with an absolute conviction to remain true to oneself and one feature that accentuates this attitude is its mid engine layout which  guarantees a low centre of gravity and  that gives high degree nimbleness and an whooping sports drive. The horizontally opposed six-cylinder has the capacity of 2.9L and delivers maximum power of 265 hp @ 7,200 rpm and a max torque of 300 Nm @ 4,400 and 6,000 rpm. Porsche Cayman can accelerate to 100 km/hr in 5.8 seconds however with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the 5.8 seconds time is reduced to 5.7 seconds only.

The top speed of the coupe is 265 kmph when the engine comes with the manual gearbox which reduces 10-12% in CO2 emissions depending on the type of gearbox, manual or PDK. Cayman comes adorned with enlarged brake discs at the front axle to provide you with the option of shorter braking distance and enhanced safety. There are also 17” wheels that are incorporated with a star shaped design which gives a charming view of the brake system.

The design of the Cayman models is befitting of their distinctive, sporty character.The exteriors are wordplay of convex and concave curves and the styling has not been seen before. The front facia of the car is a true example of the kind of character one associates with Porsche sportster Cayman and the it has been refreshed with elongated air pipes that just gives you a touch of the performance capability.

The proportions of the front apron gives the car a sturdy stance and the front spoiler lip has been enlarged, further squeezing the lift at the front axle. The front wings with the incorporated headlights give Cayman models a distinctive sporty touch. Both the Cayman siblings comes adorned with halogen headlights, LED position lights and front fog headlamps , and as an optional package Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, including LED daytime running lights, are also available. The smooth lines along the side that goes past the rear are newly styled and enlarged exterior mirrors is where the astounding design continues to live. The styling is further enhanced by the immaculately pronounced curves of the front and the rear wings and contours of the door.
